Statement
Working as a Jewelry Artist over the years, I have had recurring micro-moments where I imagine jewelry worn beyond the outer form of the human body. The visualization begins with spaces I inhabit, often times in surrounding environments, and more recently and deeply, the spaces within the body.
Being in constant contact with Brass, (as the primary working material in my jewelry practice and also being a wearer of brass adornments), I feel its intimate imprint on me, and the sensations on my body. These sensations/feelings retreat within the body and also extend outward. The jewelry piece reads as a magnified physical memory of these sensations.
My work interrogates the idea of an adornment by attempting to reveal its subtle network and sheaths/layers by highlighting the connections of its disintegrated components; connections that are so interwoven within the networks of other materials/ideas/constructs that we exist in.
The Brass components laid against the flat Canvas are residual pieces of my jewelry practice. Each component’s form brings forth the memory of a particular adornment crafted at a certain time with a certain state of being.
It attempts to bare open/reveal a glimpse of one’s/my lived memory, the vulnerability of which we hold as an adornment, worn with grace.
